On Wednesday 21 May , in the evening I had a visit from a beautiful falcon (Peregrine) and he seemed to be fairly unafraid of me. We had a chat on the step & then I excused myself & slunk off to get my big camera. He was still there when I came back, but then he went into my studio. He had probably had a bit of a mishap as he hopped. He hopped onto the work table & was puzzledby the mirror seeing me in 2 places & another falcon!
Then he flew to the top of one of my easels, I was taking photos all the time. This was amazing having one huge landscape painted by me with this beautiful bird posing in it! Then he flew to the top of the bigger easel. By now I was wondering if he would like the fish that was on our menu or if he would prefer a ham sandwich! All the windows in the studio & glass doors were covered by white curtains and now I had moved away from the entrance door.
Then he flew out of the door to a low wall in the garden, later to the garage wall, & finally to the roof of the studio! This was never in panic, just calmly experimenting with his wings. By now I decided I had better get on with fixing our supper & I presumed he would be able to cope for himself. It was nearly an hour later, & Theo was due home, hungry!
I looked up in the bird book & it said he would hunt crows, pigeons, etc. so I was glad he didn't stay to dinner! I watched as he flew away into our beautiful nightingale valley.
